In drifting, there is always a risk of total damage, and today's weather couldn't have been more threatening. The crew of NOPI Drift, as well as its participants, rolled the dice and put on one of the first drift events ever to be held in central Ohio. I sat at home for several hours watching the animated version of the local weather radar, and began to think it was broken. With each passing frame, the large green blob wouldn't move from the same place after several hours. Taking the risk that the drifters do with every slide, I packed my gear and headed out to cover the event for the Car and Model viewers.
NOPI puts on many events each year so it was no surprise that this one sailed smoothly. The Cooper Tires stage was always in full swing entertaining the crowd. As if the weather wasn't hot enough, all you had to do was look behind you to see all of the beautiful NOPI Chics. Jessica Renee, Jada Cheng, Sunshine Rodriguez, Caya and Brandi, just to name a few. If the heat and the girls weren't hot enough for you, take a walk over to the drift course, and you'll definitely feel it.
Being sprayed in the face with rubber from drifters such as Nathan Brasz, Forrest, Kenji Yamanaka, Ali Aljibouri and Matthew Waldin was quite an experience. Note to future attendees that are viewing right next to the wall, don't wear a white t-shirt. You'll look like the whipped cream on a mocha latte with chocolate shavings sprinkled on top by the end of the day.
