This was the finals for the 2005 Lowrider Magazine Super Show and it was certainly a very big deal. It was a sea of chrome, gold, and hydraulics with well over 500 customized cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles.
This event was the first lowrider-specific event for Car and Model to attend, and we figured we'd start with a big one. There were a lot of vendors selling clothing, lowrider collectibles, art, car parts and other accessories. The hydraulics hop-off contest showed that all cars are not created equal. Some broke wheels and bumpers while one actually had the back window pop out and shatter on the ground. One of the car owner's friends nearly caught it, but it still shattered at his feet.
Entertainment included performances by headliner Ice Cube, Lil' Rob, Baby Bash, and B-Real from Cypress Hill. I'm not the best estimator of crowd size, but my guess would be around 7500 people were jammed into the stage area to see this part of the show. Ice Cube is out promoting his new album "Laugh Now, Cry Later" and was filming a live video for MTV using the Lowrider stage.
Overall I was glad we decided to cover this event. There were some amazing cars with hundreds of hours of hard work and late nights spent creating these one-of-a-kind vehicles.
We hope you enjoy this coverage, and we'd like to hear from you if you'd like to see more of these shows next year. We'd like to hear from you about any type of shows or content that you'd like to see more of on Car and Model. You can contact us via the General Feedback form.
