Formula DRIFT press release:
The Formula DRIFT Championship presented by Circuit City entered Wall Speedway, New Jersey for Round 6 and the action continued as Daijiro Yoshihara in his Rockstar/Nitto Tires Nissan Silvia S15 slid past the other competitors for his 2nd win of the season.
Wall Speedway with it's banked oval entry into a figure-8 course, is one of the most technical courses on the circuit and the event lived up to its moniker, "All or Nothing," as the drivers pushed the limits and went all out for the win right before the season finale. The Semi-Finals matched up Castrol SYNTEC Power Cup Point Leader Tanner Foust with his AEM / Memphis Car Audio Nissan 350Z with his good friend and 4th Place contender, Rhys Millen and the Red Bull Pontiac Solstice, with Millen edging out Foust in a very exciting battle that was close enough for a, "One More Time" round from the judges. Top qualifier Tyler McQuarrie in his Hankook Tires / JIC Porsche GT2 went up against Daijiro Yoshihara and the Rockstar / Nitto Tires Silvia S15 with Yoshihara taking the win. The Finals became a battle of the energy drinks with Yoshihara taking his second victory of the season by defeating Millen and jumping up to the 2nd place overall in the Castrol SYNTEC Power Cup Point Standings.
The competition has never been closer with Foust leading the way with 500 points, Yoshihara in 2nd place with 477 points, and Chris Forsberg in his Maxxis Tires Nissan 350Z right behind with 476 points. Due to a random post race impound and inspection conducted by Formula DRIFT officials the RMR team and driver Rhys Millen was issued a 17 point deduction to their overall point total and remains in the 4th place position.
"With only 24 points separating the Top 3 drivers in the Castrol SYNTEC Power Cup Points standings the Formula DRIFT Championship presented by Circuit City will be decided at the Finals in Irwindale, CA on October 13." said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT.
